Mari Plaza Munet

'making of' documentarian / production assistant, India

A visual and media artist as well as a strategic planner, Mari is a specialist in public relations, project management, education and training who has worked on social justice art projects, public heath issues, and on conflict resolution and development.

Mari holds a BA in Communications, with a major in Advertising, from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, Santurce, Puerto Rico and a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her bilingual/bicultural (English/Spanish) skills have been applied to her work with the Academy for Educational Development and the National Minority AIDS Council, both in Washington, D.C; Colorado state and county organizations such as the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and Colorado Department of Education. She has served in many leadership roles as well as an educational and community outreach specialist.  

As a fine artist, her work has been exhibited in Puerto Rico, the U.S. and in Prague, Czech Republic. She traveled with Nakedmind Productions and served as a video and photo shooter for the company during the 2007 India tour.  She is the recipient of several awards:  Three in the arts: Artistic Merit Scholarship from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; Study Abroad Scholarship that took her to England, Germany, France, and the Czech Republic; and the Endowment of the Arts, Art and Cultural Facilities District award for her Exhibition “Organic Passion”. As a project manager she has received several distinctions:  “Who is Who”: Denver Notable Hispanics;  “Leadership Boulder”, Boulder Chamber of Commerce, “People Who Make the Difference”, Times Call News, Longmont, Colorado;  “Boulder County Annual Multicultural Awards”, Award Category: Health;  “Women Student Leadership Recognition”, Ohio State University; “Kellogg’s Leadership Award”, Northwestern University; and “President Leadership Award”, Ohio State University.
